CLEANSING BY CONTRAST
There are two different types of cleansing: by contrast and by affinity. Cleansing by contrast is based on substances called “surfactants”. These molecules have a dual affinity, consisting of one part with an affinity for fats and oils (lipophilic) and one part with an affinity for water (hydrophilic). The lipophilic part captures particles of dirt, sebum, sweat and impurities from the environment, which are “oily” in nature, while the hydrophilic part means they can be rinsed away.
CLEANSING BY AFFINITY
Cleansing by affinity, on the other hand, is based on the “like dissolves like” principle. By their very nature, oily substances have an affinity for dirt and impurities and are able to remove them from the skin. This is the gentlest type of cleansing, because it shows the greatest respect for our skin’s structure and physiology. Moreover, thanks to the presence of oils, it also provides an important soothing function.
